Outsider Art Gallery
Outsider Art Gallery in De Nieuwe Liefde exhibits and sells work by contemporary outsider artists from the Netherlands and abroad. The gallery was officially opened by Queen Maxima in March 2016.
Outsider artists are ‘different’; they usually have no formal art training and operate outside the mainstream art world. Some of these artists have mental or intellectual disabilities. A characteristic feature of outsider artists is their inner urge to create without concern for commercial objectives or knowledge of existing art movements. Their work is fascinating, versatile, and very pure. There is also growing interest in outsider art in the mainstream art world. Outsider Art Gallery offers a fully-fledged and inclusive art platform for these colorful artists in an inspiring museum environment.
Outsider Art Galerie is an initiative of healthcare organization Cordaan, De Nieuwe Liefde, and Museum van de Geest.
Currently, the depot can be visited (by appointment only) for the rental or sale of the artists’ works.
