Jescika van Overveld
Jescika van Overveld has been working as an artist for a long time, starting out in around 1996 with a creative group in Diemen. Jescika’s early work is characterised by the endless repetition of small shapes such as beetles, birds and fish. Gradually, Jescika has continued to develop her skills. She has become a master at mixing colours and rendering texture. This is particularly remarkable when you consider that she has very limited vision in one eye.
She still enjoys painting birds and fish, often using existing images, but she also paints things ‘from her head’. Recently, Jessica has been working a lot on landscapes and still lifes.
Her work is figurative and refers to visible reality. She has an excellent sense of colour and detail. Her favourite colours are blue, skin tone, a little purple and green-blue (sea colour). Her approach to space and perspective is also very distinctive; she does not use linear perspective, but rather flips her images, as it were; it is as if you are looking at the image from the front and from above at the same time. In 2025, two works by Jescika were included in the Animal Therapy exhibition at the Museum van de Geest Amsterdam.
