Osmel creates colourful drawings and paintings that tell stories about his native island of Curaçao. Osmel: ‘Painting makes me calm and happy. When I make a painting, I start with the lines, then suddenly figures emerge, and only when I’m finished do I see that it’s a celebration.’ In 2024, Osmel won the art prize for ‘Best Group Portrait of North Holland’ and his work was exhibited in the Amsterdam Museum and the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem. In 2025, he will also participate in the “This Art Fair”. In the same year, 10 of his portraits toured with the theatre production “Normality No More” by Conny Jansen Danst in collaboration with Via Berlin. His work was thus displayed in more than 20 different locations throughout the country! In addition to painting, Osmel works with textiles, thread and cardboard. In addition to visual art, he also enjoys making music and performing. In 2024, he was the opening act for Museum Night at Outsider Art Galerie in H’Art. This evening, organised in collaboration with Jong Cordaan, attracted more than 1,000 visitors. Osmel is a fully-fledged participant in the Amsterdam art scene and someone to keep an eye on.
